Job Details

ASSYST is seeking a Subject Matter Expert Senior (Cloud and Infrastructure Architect) to support our client's enterprise IT modernization and digital transformation initiatives. This is a high-impact role responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of cloud-based and hybrid infrastructure solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, virtualization, and secure enterprise system architecture.

This opportunity directly contributes to enhancing the resiliency, scalability, and efficiency of our client's IT operations across water treatment, distribution, and enterprise platforms.

Job Title: Cloud and Infrastructure Architect
Location: Laurel, MD (up to two days remote)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement hybrid/cloud-native architectures using Microsoft Azure and Office 365.
  • Lead cloud migration of on-premise infrastructure including storage and backups.
  • Architect and support Microsoft Endpoint Management (Intune, SCCM/MECM).
  • Integrate identity and access solutions (Azure Entra ID, MFA).
  • Implement secure access architectures (Azure Front Door, API Management, App Proxy, RSA SecureID).
  • Design disaster recovery with Azure Site Recovery (ASR) for cloud and on-prem.
  • Support Citrix NetScaler and XenApp for application delivery.
  • Conduct cloud cost optimization and recommend right-sizing strategies.
  • Lead cloud security posture assessments and remediation efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with patching and security policies.
  • Develop and deliver technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Collaborate across IT, business units, application owners, and vendors.

Qualifications & Experience:
Education:

  • Bachelor s in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or related field (required) Master s preferred.
  • 10 years with bachelor s, 8 with master s, or 6 with Ph.D.

General Experience:

  • 10+ years designing and implementing enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Extensive Microsoft ecosystem expertise: Azure, Office 365, AD, Windows Server, virtualization.
  • 8 10 years leading IT modernization/cloud transformation in public sector/utility settings.
  • Successful track record in complex Azure hybrid infrastructure projects, backup consolidation, endpoint management, and secure access.
  • Experience with Power Platform integrations (Power BI, Power Automate).
  • Expertise in DR strategies (Azure Site Recovery), cost optimization, and security compliance.

Required Skills:

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure (VMs, Storage, Front Door, API Mgmt, Site Recovery).
  • Endpoint Management: Microsoft Intune, MECM/SCCM across Windows, iOS, Android.
  • Backup & DR: DELL/APEX, Commvault, NetBackup, Druva, Azure Site Recovery.
  • Identity & Access: Azure Entra ID (Azure AD), MFA (RSA/SecureID), OAuth 2.0, RBAC.
  • App Access & Integration: Citrix NetScaler, XenApp, Power Platform integrations via secure gateways.
  • Virtualization: VMware vSphere/ESXi.
  • Enterprise Systems: Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL Server, Exchange, DNS, DHCP, IIS.
  • Communication: Strong verbal/written communication with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and root-cause troubleshooting in hybrid environments.
