Position Overview
Parker-Meggitt is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer with strong C programming expertise and a background in aerospace or safety-critical systems. The engineer will support an avionics Smoke Detection System project and will be responsible for embedded software development, integration testing, bug troubleshooting, and updating progress in JIRA.
This is a hands-on, onsite role requiring close collaboration with systems, hardware, and verification teams.
Key Responsibilities
Embedded Software Development & Integration
- Develop, enhance, and maintain embedded software modules in C / Embedded C for safety-critical avionics applications.
- Perform integration testing on target hardware, simulators, and hardware-in-loop (HIL) environments.
- Configure and manage rig/test setups for system-level integration and validation.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve software and integration issues identified during testing.
Protocol & System-Level Interaction
- Work with subsystems that communicate via ARINC 429 and CAN protocols.
- Validate data exchange between system modules to support smoke detection system performance.
- Coordinate with verification teams to support smoke detection, functional testing, and regression activities.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Document test configurations, integration outcomes, defect reports, and updates in JIRA.
- Collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, V&V (Verification & Validation), and Hardware teams.
- Ensure successful system-level validation through clear communication and timely issue resolution.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Embedded C / low-level firmware development.
- Strong understanding of real-time embedded systems.
- Experience with integration testing and HIL setups.
- Solid working knowledge of ARINC 429 and CAN communication protocols.
- Experience with aerospace or avionics test tools such as:
- BusTools/ARINC
- CANalyzer
- EICAS / CMS simulators
- Familiarity with embedded debugging tools such as ZAPCross Debugger.
- Experience in system rig configuration, hardware troubleshooting, and integration workflows.
- Working knowledge of DO-178B/C standards is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
