Position Overview

As an Enterprise Architect, you will lead the design and implementation of our composable enterprise platform, driving our transformation from legacy on-premises systems to a modern MACH (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless) architecture. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in cloud-native patterns, microservices architecture, and platform engineering. You will build reference implementations, design reusable enterprise services, and enable development teams to compose solutions from our modern platform. You will collaborate across business and technical teams to establish architectural standards, eliminate technical debt, and deliver scalable solutions that align with our strategic technology roadmap.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and architect composable platform services following MACH principles, supporting both greenfield development and migration from legacy applications.
  • Build reference implementations and working prototypes to demonstrate architectural patterns, serving as concrete examples for development teams to follow.
  • Architect enterprise services and reusable platform components that enable teams to compose business solutions rapidly without rebuilding common functionality.
  • Lead the technical design of event-driven microservices architectures using gRPC/Protocol Buffers, RESTful APIs, and asynchronous messaging patterns.
  • Establish and enforce cloud-native architecture patterns with a serverless-first approach, leveraging AWS services to optimize for scalability, cost, and operational excellence.
  • Develop a deep understanding of business capabilities and technical roadmaps to architect cross-functional platform solutions that serve multiple teams and use cases.
  • Decompose complex business problems into composable technical components, producing detailed architectural documentation including API contracts, data models, and integration patterns.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure smooth adoption of platform services, providing technical guidance and removing architectural impediments.
  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating and selecting technologies, frameworks, and cloud services that align with MACH principles and our serverless-first strategy.
  • Ensure solutions adhere to enterprise architecture standards for security, observability, resilience, performance, and compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate architectural risks related to system integration, data consistency, performance bottlenecks, and operational complexity.
  • Lead architecture reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions to align stakeholders on technical approaches, patterns, and platform capabilities.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging cloud-native technologies and architectural patterns, incorporating best practices into the organization's technology evolution.

Required Skills

  • BA or BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in the design and implementation of complex, high-volume distributed systems, with at least 5+ years focused on cloud-native architecture and microservices.
  • Proven track record of building reference implementations and working prototypes that demonstrate architectural patterns and platform capabilities.
  • Deep expertise in MACH architecture principles: Microservices, API-first design, Cloud-native patterns, and Headless architectures.
  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, DynamoDB, S3), and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Extensive experience designing and building event-driven architectures, RESTful APIs, and gRPC/Protocol Buffers services.
  • Demonstrated ability to code in modern backend languages (Go, Python, Java, or similar) with the capability to write production-quality code for reference implementations.
  • Solid understanding of API design patterns, service integration patterns, and distributed system challenges including eventual consistency, idempotency, and failure handling.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker), CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment patterns.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise security best practices including authentication, authorization, data encryption, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases, understanding when to use each for specific use cases.
  • Proven ability to mentor and guide technical teams in adopting new architectural patterns and platform services.

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on experience with Go and gRPC for building high-performance microservices.
  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent demonstrating deep cloud expertise).
  • Experience leading enterprise-scale platform transformations from legacy monolithic systems to modern composable architectures.
  • Background in logistics, supply chain, or transportation management systems.
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design and establishing bounded contexts for microservices.
  • Experience with observability platforms (DataDog, New Relic, CloudWatch) and building systems designed for operational excellence.
