The Data Center and Energy BU's purpose is to engineer a decarbonized, cleaner, and a more sustainable electrified future. Developing solutions for the digitized grid, renewable energy generation, energy storage, EV charging infrastructure, smart meters and electrified powertrain, the group supports customers with break-through technology to convert, manage, and store electrical power.
The transformation of the energy grid and the electrification of transportation continues to accelerate. We are looking to add capabilities to our team to help us succeed in our mission.
The Role
The Principal Electromagnetic Systems Engineer will lead the modelling and simulation of electromagnetic effects in high voltage, high power semiconductor and board level designs. Working closely with IC Design teams and whole product solutions teams, the EM Engineer will investigate EM behaviors and performance of designs and create mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate performance degradations. This includes modelling of IC layouts, packaging, board layouts and interconnects, magnetic components, and high voltage isolation paths. The EM Engineer will also drive innovation in magnetics in high voltage, high power conversion systems, current sensing, and other energy-related applications. Work will include extensive interactions with customers during design-in cycles to ensure best performance in end applications.
The role requires a flexible and highly skilled EM systems engineer with expertise in EM effects in high power designs while possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills. Specific duties include

- Discover and implement novel techniques to minimize EM interference and improve performance in energy ICs, modules, boards, and systems.
- Model and simulate concepts using EM tools such as EMWorks, Momentum, Ansys, HFSS, etc.
- Drive semiconductor and module packaging improvements to minimize EMI/EMC effects in package and on modules and boards.
- Drive innovation in magnetics development for power conversion, current sensing, and other energy applications.
- Assist in IC design and layout to minimize degradations from EM effects
- Assist in board level design and layout to minimize EM effects and optimize performance.
- Work with customers during critical design-in activity to ensure best performance.
Requirements
Strong candidates will have the following experience and qualifications:
- MSEE or PhD in Engineering or Physics and 8+ years of experience in electromagnetics modelling and simulation preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in power electronics design and modelling, especially with respect to electromagnetics
- Experience creating models and simulating in tools such as EMWorks, Ansys, Agilent Momentum, Q3D, HFSS, etc.
- Knowledge of magnetic materials, constructions of transformers and inductors, and their optimization for specific power circuit topologies and switch (SiC / GaN) technologies highly desired
- Experience in automotive systems and functional safety is highly desired.
