Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Manufacturing Engineering Manager to develop, deploy, and take on responsibility for state-of-the-art Battery Cell manufacturing processes and equipment in our mass production facility - GigaFactory Texas located in Austin, Texas.
The Tesla Battery Cell Manufacturing Engineering Team is not for the faint of heart, after all, changing the world isn't easy. It is, however, an opportunity to work along-side some of the industry's top experts on some of the most stimulating challenges of the 21st Century
This role will lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible to develop, scale up, deploy, and optimize battery cell assembly manufacturing processes. This newest member of Manufacturing Engineering will be in lockstep with our Design for Manufacturability team, Product Excellence (Quality), Production Engineering, Production, and New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to take new manufacturing designs and manufacturing processes from initial concept, through prototype development, and into full production. As such, we expect this person to take pride in their hands-on work, analytical ability, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional engineering teams to develop innovative manufacturing solutions
- Define and implement manufacturing strategies aligned with organizational goals
- Oversee end-to-end line development, from conceptualization to production launch
- Secure executive approval for project funding through compelling business cases
- Partner with design engineering to optimize components for manufacturability (DFM)
- Develop process documentation, PFMEA risk analyses, and critical parameter controls
- Manage production line ramp-up to meet aggressive timelines and quality standards
- Establish KPIs for engineering teams to drive accountability and performance
- Allocate resources effectively to prioritize high-impact projects
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with 5+ years in leadership roles
- Proven expertise in PFMEA, process documentation, and lean manufacturing principles
- Strong project management skills with a track record of meeting deadlines
- Proficiency in CAD software and data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Tableau)
- Excellent communication skills for cross-departmental collaboration and executive reporting
- Experience managing high-volume production launches in fast-paced environments
- Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification (preferred)
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges and implement solutions
- Willingness to travel up to 20% for supplier or site evaluations
