Position Summary:
The Cloud Solution Engineer / Developer SME will lead the development and implementation of the Common Cloud File Transfer Platform, translating system architecture and integration requirements into secure, reusable code modules. The role demands deep technical knowledge of CLOUD Services (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform), secure data transfer protocols, and modern DevOps practices. The engineer will be responsible for building automation workflows, developing reusable infrastructure components, and enabling test frameworks for performance and scalability validation.
Must Haves:
Agnostic software engineering experience in cloud-native architectures. Should understand many Cloud tools (Azure, OCI, AWS, Google, Google Cloud Platform) so that if Charter needs to lift and shift from one to another you are the SME behind it to tell them how
Experience designing and deploying secure automation workflows and APIs in enterprise environments.
Strong understanding of file transfer protocols (SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, AS2, API-based transfers).
Experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Terraform, CloudFormation).
Strong background in security-first coding, including encryption, key management, and least-privilege models.
Skilled in a programming language, likely Python
Extremely nice to have and will set aside from another is: understand Identity Access Mgmt (IAM) within the Cloud. They know Active Directory does not play well with the Cloud. Experience integrating managed file transfer or B2B automation solutions in AWS or hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaboration on Solution Design & Development
Translate CLOUD (AWS Transfer Family system architecture) requirements into Charter's proprietary codebase.
Design and implement reusable, secure, cloud-native components to automate file transfer workflows and monitoring.
Build UI/UX components and backend APIs to enable a user-friendly file transfer interface.
AWS Integration
Integrate AWS services including CloudTrail, CloudWatch Logs, S3, Lambda, and IAM for security and auditability.
Develop automated data workflows using AWS-native and custom-developed functions for operational control and monitoring.
Testing & Validation
Construct a Common Test Platform for parallel and performance testing across multiple use cases.
Develop automated test cases to validate throughput, latency, and reliability metrics.
Governance & Portability
Design code structures and APIs that maintain platform portability and avoid vendor lock-in.
Document integration patterns, security models, and scalability approaches for future reference and reuse.
Partner closely with the Principal Engineer SME and Cloud Architecture teams to align technical designs with enterprise cloud strategy.
Collaborate with Information Security, IAM, and Operations teams to ensure compliance with enterprise security and governance policies.
Familiarity with front-end frameworks for administrative portals.
Knowledge of enterprise data governance and compliance frameworks
Developer certification
Include Soft Skills; collaborative, understand workflows and use cases, Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with evolving priorities. Strategic mindset focused on reusability, scalability, and future-state architecture.
Day to Day:
This team is responsible for Secure Data Movement. You will work with the Developers and Operations to provide high-end transfer of files that are extremely business critical. This is a mission critical project that is very visible to the organization and cannot fail. It literally involves the Secure movement of files from Point A to B which includes Legal, HR, Payroll, Supply Chain, Advertisements, etc... The current tool is Cleo Harmony which is an out of the box solution that is being replaced by mid year 2026.
A Systems Integrator is in process of being selected by Charter and this resource will work alongside the Integrator and understand their code, be able to write new code, support the code moving forward once the Integrator has left, ensure cross platform portability. If Charter decides to move in a different direction with Cloud, this SME will be the person responsible for the successful lift and shift to the new tool. For instance, if AWS is first selected, but then Charter decides to move to Google, this person will be the SME to get them there successfully.
You must understand Design from a coding perspective. You must have a Developer mindset and not just be able to read a blueprint.
