The Network Edge Security Engineer is an individual contributor responsible for engineering, implementing, and maintaining secure connectivity at the network edge. This role partners with cross-functional Schwab technology and security teams to design and deploy modern edge security architectures that ensure secure access, visibility, and high availability across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.
Engineering, implementing, driving adoption of edge security technologies such as DDoS Protection, Web Application Firewalls (WAF), Bot Management, and Edge DNS. This engineer will also focus on improving threat intelligence, securing user and device access at the edge, enhancing network telemetry, and implementing scalable, resilient edge infrastructure to address identified security control gaps.
The ideal candidate has strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify root causes and support application teams and end users in resolving edge security-related issues. The role also involves close collaboration with product and project teams to understand business needs and enable secure, seamless access through modern edge security solutions.
A proven track record of experience implementing and maintaining network security solutions.
This role requires on-call rotation.

Responsibilities:
- Understanding of computer networking concepts, communication protocols, primary threat actor attack methods and tools
- Competent in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources, documenting results, and analyzing findings to provide viable threat intelligence
- Ability to understand and learn technical specifications, system requirements and other application design information as needed
- Detail-oriented person who is passionate about quality and is enthusiastic about innovative technology offerings
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and you are comfortable composing briefs and assessments for leadership
- Familiar with analytical programming languages such as python
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and rapid change
- Comfortable with process flow diagrams
- Familiar with applying Agile Methods
- Basic understanding of a variety of security and compliance policies and incident response processes
- Understanding of Firewall, Routing/Switching background with understanding of L3 Technology (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF), ACLs, WAN technologies
- Knowledge with common IP/application attacks such as SYN, UDP, NTP and ICMP floods, HTTP GET and POST
- Knowledge with top 10 OWASP
- Knowledge with MITRE ATT&CK framework
- Knowledge with web attack domain detection and mitigation controls (i.e WAF, Bot, DoS)
- Ability to exercise sound judgment when determining which events require follow-up response or escalation
- Maintaining incident documentation, analyzing incident trends
- Experience maintaining and generating audit evidence for internal and external regulatory compliance
- Ability to function as a technical conduit between IT and the business
What you have
Required Qualifications:
- Experience at least 6 years working in network security.
- Experience at least 2 years with supporting Akamai.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering or related field or equivalent work. experience.
