We are seeking a Senior Ansible Engineer to lead the design, validation, and deployment of scalable, secure, and reliable automation solutions to support T-Mobile's vast network and internal infrastructure. This role is critical to managing over 35,000+ RHEL, Windows, and AIX servers in our private cloud environment. You'll leverage cutting-edge tools such as Ansible Automation Platform, Puppet, and Python to drive automation, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and configuration management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Engineering & Automation
  • Design, develop, and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and modules to support internal cloud-hosted physical and virtual infrastructure.
  • Lead the migration from Puppet to Ansible; manage cross-platform infrastructure automation (RHEL, Windows, AIX).
  • Develop and maintain API integrations with systems like ServiceNow, WSUS, and other middleware and DB services.
  • Implement automation for patch management (Linux/AIX via Ansible + SNOW; Windows via WSUS).
  • Ensure system reliability, performance, and scalability through proactive automation design and monitoring.
Innovation & Strategy
  • Identify and implement new automation strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce time-to-deployment.
  • Contribute to the evolution of tools and processes that support performance optimization and capacity management.
Collaboration & Leadership
  • Partner with system engineers and cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and automation needs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives across teams.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedules as needed.
Technical Documentation
  • Create clear, thorough technical documentation including designs, processes, code explanations, and deployment procedures.
  • Present solutions and automation strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining automation with Ansible.
  • Deep knowledge of Ansible Automation Platform, Puppet, SCCM, and infrastructure-as-code principles.
  • Proficient in Python, Jinja2, Bash, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible facts, modules, functions, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Strong understanding of Linux/Unix and Windows systems administration.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and communicate effectively across technical domains.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience integrating with ServiceNow, WSUS, and middleware databases via APIs.
  • Background in large-scale systems (10K+ servers) and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and reporting tools in cloud environments.
  • Exposure to security and compliance standards in infrastructure automation.

Base Pay Range: $113,600 - $205,000

Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
