Job Details

We are seeking a Senior Network Firewall Engineer to join our dynamic and agile team in Manassas, VA. This role requires 2+ days onsite per week and willingness to perform weekend deployment activities and be on-call on a rotational basis (estimated one Saturday out of four weekends).

The successful candidate will be fully responsible for the design, optimization, deployment, and support of Network Firewalls and security aspects within an Agile/DevOps environment. This is a mission-critical role offering exposure to global impact within a relatively small, fast-paced company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, configure, upgrade, and maintain Fortinet and Checkpoint Firewalls (including virtual instances like VDOM/VSX).
  • Implement and operate network solutions, deploying infrastructure and software adhering to change management processes.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers following DevOps/Agile principles.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot complex network flows, interconnectivity, performance, and configuration issues.
  • Provision/execute firewall requests in accordance with security policies and standards.
  • Automate, educate, and share knowledge transparently to drive continuous improvement.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • MUST have active Fortinet certification.
  • 6-9 years of experience in a technical operational support area.
  • Hands-on experience with Fortinet and Checkpoint Firewalls or similar technologies.
  • Experience with Firewall management platforms such as FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, and Checkpoint Smart-One.
  • Familiarity with security policy management tools like Algosec Security Management System.
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN and Zero Trust concepts.
  • Capable of troubleshooting complex network issues.
  • Experience with scripting (Shell, Python, or Perl).
  • Strong analytical skills, autonomous, customer-oriented, and a collaborative team player.
  • Excellent communication skills (fluent in English, spoken and written).

Desired Skills & Assets:

  • Certifications in Fortinet FCP/FCSS Network Security, Checkpoint CCSA/CCSE, or Cisco CCNA.
  • Experience with daily and weekly Firewall rule-base management.
  • Ability to plan and execute Firewall product roadmap/evolution.
  • Familiarity with Zero Touch/Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow.
  • Knowledge/experience operating in Linux.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation technologies (Ansible, Jenkins).
  • Good knowledge of IT security.
  • Experience with Load Balancing and Routing & Switching.
