Job Summary:
The Assistant Program Manager supports the Program Manager in managing all aspects of the business relationship with assigned railroad customers in the regional area. This role plays a key part in facilitating project planning and execution, assisting with project financials and reporting, and helping coordinate technical activities related to train control system and software development projects. The position ensures schedules, budgets, and customer expectations are consistently managed and communicated.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in monitoring project performance, identifying conflicts, and recommending corrective actions
Support communication across project stakeholders and ensure alignment of goals and expectations
Assist in managing the Master Project Schedule, including milestones, payment schedules, and risk management
Coordinate with internal technical teams to support timely delivery of project components
Help track and allocate project funds, labor costs, and resource assignments
Assist in generating weekly status updates and documentation
Participate in identifying and mitigating project risks and issues
Support customer relationships and ensure prompt issue resolution
Assist in the preparation of Software Development Plans (SDPs)
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor s degree required; preferred fields include engineering, software, or business administration
Minimum of 3 7 years of relevant systems or software project experience, preferably in the rail or transit industry
Special Requirements:
PMP certification or equivalent professional certification is preferred, but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially MS Project and PowerPoint
Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
Familiarity with project control fundamentals including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive customer and team relationships
Additional Desired Characteristics:
Experience in railroad or transportation-related industries
Background in software development projects or technical coordination
Process improvement or Lean methodology experience
