Job Details

The Passive Safety Team is responsible for executing, analyzing, and reporting on crash, sled, and component level testing within required program timelines, primarily focusing on vehicle development, regulatory certification, and consumer protection crash testing. The team consists of Test Engineers and Engineering Technicians, specializing in Vehicle & Mechanical, Instrumentation, Photoimaging & Anthropomorphic Test Devices (Crash Test Dummies).

Responsibilities
  • Work in a team-based environment to conduct vehicle and component-level crash tests according to written and oral requests and procedures, while ensuring a high level of quality and repeatability
  • Perform retrofits to test vehicles to match desired configuration and rebuild select vehicles for follow-up tests
  • Installation/removal of vehicle test fixtures, lab equipment, and ballast weights, as specified in a provided test request test request
  • Support Lab improvement efforts
  • Perform pre- and post-test vehicle and crash test dummy measurements using a Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM)
  • Document test-setup details and incidents that are discovered during setup and testing
  • Prepare the test vehicle Engineering review and signoffs for testing
  • Organize, label, store test samples and components
  • Decommission vehicles which includes but is not limited to removing and discharging high voltage (400V and 800V) battery packs, and prepare crashed vehicles for the scrapyard
  • Always operate and maintain a safe working environment for all employee

Requirements
  • Wide variety of experience diagnosing, repairing, and replacing components on Hybrid or BEV passenger vehicles. Tesla specific or certified BEV experience preferred
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of tools and shop equipment, for servicing vehicles and lab equipment, able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to use computers effectively for diagnosis, and test reporting (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Jira, Tesla-specific diagnostics tools)
  • Able to communicate respectfully and effectively, both verbally and through digital medium
  • A proactive attitude, desire to do things right, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Open to cross-training, with some interest in high-speed videography and photography
  • Maintain an organized and clean work environment, adhere to 5S standards
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize individual workload, and meet deadlines
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Associate's Degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology from an accredited institution or Automotive OEM Test Technician Training and/or able demonstrate proficiency of relevant work experience
