About the Opportunity:
FedTec is seeking a Senior Software Engineer COBOL/Unisys Mainframe to support the development and maintenance of critical financial systems. This role requires proficiency in COBOL development is required for this position. Responsible for research, design, and development of computer software. Requires the application of principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Under general direction, performs high-level systems analysis, design, development, integration, documentation, and implementation of application software that requires a thorough knowledge of technical skills. Directs and participates in all phases of system development with emphasis on analysis, evaluation, integration, testing and acceptance phases. Analyzes software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
Job Title: Senior Software Engineer (COBOL/Unisys Mainframe)
Location: 100% Remote
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance COBOL-based financial systems operating on Unisys Mainframe.
- Perform high-level system analysis, integration, and testing for mission-critical applications.
- Work within an Agile team, following Capability Maturity Model (CMM) best practices.
- Implement and optimize QLP queries and Unisys Mainframe ECL scripts.
- Ensure system performance, reliability, and compliance with security standards.
Basic Qualifications Required Education, Certifications, Skills, and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in COBOL programming in a financial or government environment.
- Strong expertise with Unisys Mainframe ECL and QLP scripting.
- Experience working within CMM-compliant software development frameworks.
- Proficiency in Agile Methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Ability to analyze and optimize existing COBOL-based systems for performance and efficiency.
- Experience working in highly regulated environments (DoD, federal finance, or accounting systems preferred).
