Job Details

Talent Space is looking for a fulltime Hardware Application Engineer for their Top 100 Semiconductor client in San Jose, CA.

This group has delivered over one billion ICs over the past 25 years solving the tough bandwidth challenges continuously faced by the Data Center, Metro and Long-Haul optical transceiver markets. The team is looking for an enthusiastic, self-driven Hardware Applications Engineer to evaluate leading-edge prototype RF/mmwave silicon, provide technical support to internal and external customers, lead the creation of customer facing collateral such as datasheets, evaluation kits, white papers and perform electro-optical characterizations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Hands-on efficient evaluation of prototype silicon, including electro-optical measurements.
  • Laboratory Automation and control of RF/mmwave wafer prober and measurement equipment.
  • Develop product collateral such as datasheets, evaluation boards & evaluation software.
  • Provide technical support (pre- and post-sale) to internal and external customers.
  • Contribute to new product definitions in collaboration with other disciplines, internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with corporate cross-functional teams on advanced developments.
  • Mentor junior application engineers.

Education & Experience

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering + 6 years of experience, or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering + 4 years of experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering + 1 years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience with wafer probing of RFIC s > 20GHz.
  • Experience with measurement automation in Python, C or similar.
  • Experience with creation of IC product collateral (datasheets, evaluation boards, etc.).
  • Familiar with RF board level design & layout practices.
  • Experience with technical customer support.
  • A good understanding of fiber optic communication systems & O/E components is desired.

Skills

  • Ability to perform hands-on RFIC (20GHz+) measurements of CMOS and SiGe BICMOS RF/mmW amplifiers.
  • Excellent understanding of S-parameters, transmission lines, linearity measurements, and wafer RF probing.
  • Lab equipment such as PNAs, Spectrum Analyzers, AWGs, DCAs, SMUs and other test equipment is used in the validation of high-speed ICs.
  • Well-versed in Python. Git/GitHub is desirable.
  • Ability to use and develop scripts for lab automation, validation, and data analysis.
  • Good understanding of board design tools (Altium, Pads, etc), fabrication, and assembly flows.
  • General understanding of wired and optical communication systems & signal processing is preferred (FFE equalizers, communication channel SNR analysis, PAM4, QPSK, 16QAM)
  • Basic understanding of optical devices (lasers, Mach-Zehnder modulators, EMLs, silicon photonics) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of fiber-optic communication systems and transceivers (IMDD, coherent) is desired.
  • Basic knowledge of microcontroller, DSP, and/or FPGA programming is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills and strong ability to independently own and drive projects.
  • Self-motivated with innovative thinking.

Working Conditions

  • 40-hour work week, on-site engineering lab.
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, carrying out multiple projects at a time.
