IT Financial Controller
Job Description
The IT Financial Controller (Portfolio Manager) will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations within the IT department. This includes monitoring expenditures to ensure activities aligned with budgetary constraints, partnering with IT leadership to track business solutions, and ensuring capital and expense items are accurately recorded.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage financial planning, forecasting, and budget tracking for the IT department.
- Prepare and present regular financial reports and variance analyses (forecast vs. actuals, prior periods, etc.).
- Track and manage capital and expense budgets across operational activities and projects.
- Consolidate monthly financials for IT and present updates to IT leadership.
- Review invoice coding and validate expenses against budget and forecast allocations.
- Use financial systems and PPM tools to research, reconcile, and resolve allocation discrepancies.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities and provide timely updates to management.
- Create and maintain budget tracking tools; ensure compliance with internal financial policies.
- Manage fee structures and monitor invoice and billing processes.
- Open purchase requisitions and track associated purchase orders.
- Receive and validate invoices for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with Accounts Payable and vendors to resolve payment issues.
Leadership & Mentoring:
- Mentor and support IT Analysts, sharing financial expertise and best practices.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for financial processes and tools.
- Act as a point of escalation for financial and budget-related concerns.
Basic Qualifications:
- Advanced proficiency in Excel is required
- 5+ years of experience in Accounting and/or Finance
- Experience managing IT budgets of $1M+ in a complex organizational environment
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Demonstrated experience with capital and expense budgeting, forecasting, and accruals
- Familiarity with the PMI project lifecycle
- Working knowledge of SAP (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using Clarity or other PPM tools
Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent experience
