Job Description Overview: Client is seeking a Software Engineer to support the development of a new operator interface tool for a fiber optic cable manufacturing line. This tool will be used by production floor operators and integrated with systems such as SAP, offline testing systems, and on-premise databases. The contractor will play a critical role in full stack development, with a focus on front-end (Razor Pages) and back-end (C#/.NET, SQL) functionality.
Must-Have Skills & Experience:
C# programming experience (primary language)
Razor Pages (not MVC or React)
Full Stack Development: Ability to handle front-end, back-end, and database tasks
SQL database experience:
Schema design
Tables, relationships
Views, stored procedures
Experience with REST APIs
Ability to work independently with minimal handholding
Strong communication skills for interacting with cross-functional teams
Experience or familiarity with Bootstrap for front-end design
Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or related field (preferred)
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Experience in a manufacturing environment or understanding of MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
SAP integration experience via APIs
Azure cloud experience (site is hosted in Azure App Services Plan)
Experience with offline testing system integration
Background in telecom, cable, or fiber optic manufacturing
Note: Prior MES or telecom experience is not required, but familiarity with manufacturing processes will help reduce the learning curve.
Project Scope:
Greenfield development building the tool from the ground up
End users will be factory floor operators unfamiliar with the new cable production process
Tool will provide process guidance and validation checkpoints to reduce production issues and scrap
May expand to integrations with testing systems and production machinery later in the contract
Focus is on building a usable, intuitive operator interface initially
Architecture/Tech Stack:
Language: C#
Framework: Razor Pages (NOT MVC, NOT React)
Front-End Tools: Bootstrap
Database: SQL Server (on-premise)
Cloud: Hosted via Azure App Services
Integration: APIs to SAP and other systems
Work Environment / Onsite Expectations:
Primary work site: Catawba, NC (remote location, 1+ hour north of Charlotte)
Possibility of working at Claremont, NC facility (15 minutes away), with occasional travel to Catawba
Minimum 3 days onsite/week (hybrid flexibility may be discussed)
Manufacturing setting candidate must be comfortable working in a non-glamorous, potentially outdated environment
Candidate will work with process engineers, IT, quality, and operations
Candidate Profile:
Mid to senior-level developer
Independent contributor capable of taking initiative
Able to interpret manufacturing requirements into actionable software solutions
Capable of asking the right questions to define and improve the operator tool
Willing to relocate or commute to a remote NC location
