Tier 2 NOC Technician / Incident Manager

Location: Annapolis, MD (5 days/week on-site)
Duration: 1-Year Contract (Contract-to-Hire Potential)
TEKsystems is seeking a Tier 2 Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician / Incident Manager to support a leading higher education institution. This role is ideal for someone with strong foundational certifications, hands-on troubleshooting experience, and the flexibility to work swing shifts in a 24x7x365 operations center.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

As a Tier 2 NOC Technician, you'll be part of a high-performing team responsible for maintaining the health and performance of critical network infrastructure. Your day will include:
  • Monitoring & Alert Response:
  • Continuously monitor network management systems and respond to alerts and alarms. Quickly assess the severity of incidents and initiate troubleshooting or escalation procedures.
  • Incident Management:
  • Act as the first point of contact for network-related issues. Log, prioritize, and manage incidents using ServiceNow. Ensure timely updates and resolution tracking.
  • Troubleshooting & Resolution:
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve issues related to LAN/WAN connectivity, Cisco routers, and infrastructure performance. Escalate complex issues to senior engineers when needed.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Communication:
  • Interface directly with internal teams and external customers to provide updates, gather information, and ensure resolution of service-impacting issues.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, resolutions, and system changes. Contribute to knowledge base articles and shift handover documentation.
  • Collaboration & Escalation:
  • Work closely with Tier 1 support, engineering teams, and telecom providers to coordinate restoral efforts and ensure SLA adherence.
  • Shift Coverage & Flexibility:
  • This is a swing shift role (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM EST), with rotating schedules. Weekend and holiday coverage is required. Flexibility to cover other shifts is a plus.

Top 3 Must-Haves:

  1. Certifications:
  2. Active CCNA, Security+, or Network+ - at least one is required. These are the most heavily weighted qualifications.
  3. Experience in a Fast-Paced Support Environment:
  4. 1-3 years of hands-on experience in a NOC, help desk, or similar technical support role. Familiarity with alarm monitoring, ticketing systems, and incident response is key.
  5. Personality & Flexibility:
  6. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a willingness to work swing shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  7. Bonus:
  8. Openness to other shifts (morning or night) is a plus.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Certifications: A+, Security+
  • Experience with Cisco IOS, Remedy, Netcool, Office 365
  • Exposure to data center operations and hybrid cloud environments

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate degree (AA/AS) or equivalent technical training with 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • In lieu of a degree, 4-6 years of hands-on technical support or network operations experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
