Mainframe Developer Job Description

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain applications on IBM mainframe platforms. The role involves working with COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and other mainframe technologies to support business-critical systems. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, code, test, and implement mainframe applications.

  • Develop and optimize programs using COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and CICS.

  • Perform batch processing and job scheduling.

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with performance, security, and reliability standards.

  • Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM.

  • Experience with mainframe development tools (e.g., Endevor, Changeman, File-Aid, Xpeditor).

  • Strong debugging and performance tuning skills.

  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile practices.

  • Ability to analyze complex business processes and design efficient solutions.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with mainframe modernization (integration with Java/.NET, APIs, or cloud).

  • Familiarity with DevOps tools for mainframe (e.g., Jenkins, Git, CA7).

  • Knowledge of financial services, insurance, or large-scale enterprise systems.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

    • 9 years of hands-on mainframe development experience.
