Terms of Employment:
W2 Contract-to-Hire, 6 Months
This position is primarily remote. With that said, candidates must live in the DMV area as onsite work is required once per quarter for PI Planning, and occasionally for other team meetings or events.
Overview & Responsibilities:
Our client is looking for someone to join a dynamic Enrollment Services team at a leading health insurance organization as a Senior Software Engineer. You will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining critical applications (both real-time APIs and batch processes) while driving the modernization effort to migrate legacy systems from the mainframe to the AWS cloud. This is an opportunity to reduce technical debt, implement best practices, and work with technologies like Java, Spring Boot, AWS, CI/CD, and potentially MongoDB/GraphQL. Key responsibilities include:
Design, develop, test, and deploy Java-based software applications, primarily using Spring Boot.
Participate actively in migrating services and applications to the AWS cloud environment.
Engage in the full software development lifecycle within a SAFe/Scrum framework, including all ceremonies (PI planning, sprint planning, stand-ups, refinement).
Develop and enhance real-time APIs and batch applications supporting enrollment services.
Provide operational support, including analyzing logs, troubleshooting issues, and performing root cause analysis.
Analyze existing systems (including legacy mainframe applications) to identify opportunities for modernization and improvement.
Proactively identify opportunities, suggest solutions, and implement best practices using modern technologies.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Experience in the healthcare / health insurance industry.
Strong experience in Java development with ability to develop unit / integration test cases using Junit / TestNG.
Experience with Spring Boot framework.
Experience with AWS cloud services.
Strong understanding and experience with CI/CD pipelines and practices.
Experience with web services and understanding of RESTful / SOA services.
Experience with containerization technologies.
Experience with or understanding of mainframe applications/environments
Ability to work within a Scrum/SAFe agile environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with MongoDB.
Experience creating GraphQL APIs.
Experience migrating applications from Cloudera.
