Data Center Technician

Overview
Seeking a skilled Data Center Technician to support server operations within enterprise data centers. This role requires strong technical expertise in hardware, IT systems, and cabling management, combined with analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, collaborative, and committed to delivering results in mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, stage, and perform hardware installations, startups, and shutdowns (servers, racks, switches, drives) following detailed checklists and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting to quickly identify root causes and replace faulty components with minimal disruption.
  • Perform post-installation quality checks, ensuring proper grounding, labeling, and cabling per safety and network design standards.
  • Execute hardware decommissioning and refresh tasks (memory upgrades, OS rebuilds) according to established protocols.
  • Document technical and non-technical processes, create SOPs, and contribute to knowledge base articles for team use.
  • Communicate and escalate incidents promptly to management and stakeholders.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and comply with all safety procedures, including equipment handling and hazard prevention.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently, meeting or exceeding KPIs and SLAs for task completion.
  • Maintain accountability for service quality and user experience while ensuring operational integrity of data center facilities.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of server hardware components and failure analysis.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools, firmware updates, and IPMI for remote management.
  • Skilled in Windows Server OS, WinPE, and basic Linux administration; PXE services experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with network troubleshooting across Layer 1-3 and virtual machine setup.
  • Ability to work independently and within geographically dispersed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in data center operations.
  • Associate degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, Server+, CCENT (CCNA preferred), MCP/MSCE.
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, Bash) is a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, climb ladders, and wear PPE as required.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
