Job Summary:

The Journeyman GIS Specialist will support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's (FWS) Information Resources and Technology Management Directorate, Data Management Division, Geospatial Data Services Branch. This role focuses on managing enterprise geospatial systems, providing technical expertise in data management, and delivering geospatial analysis and training services to support the agency's mission of conserving, protecting, and enhancing fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats.

The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional GIS experience and a Bachelor's degree or higher, with demonstrated expertise in Esri's ArcGIS suite and related technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and analyze FWS-wide and program-specific geospatial needs and provide technical solutions.
Support, manage, and maintain enterprise geospatial systems including ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, and ArcGIS Pro.
Assist data managers and end-users in identifying and modeling long- and short-term geospatial data needs, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with FWS standards.
Perform ongoing data analysis and management tasks including metadata management, data quality assurance, and standards development.
Provide geospatial training through course development, instruction, and planning activities.
Lead technical groups and task teams, facilitating consensus on GIS technology implementations and best practices.
Design and perform ETL (Extraction, Transformation, Load) processes using Safe Software's FME product line.
Support and maintain Geospatial SharePoint communication sites by creating content, automation tools, and communication materials.
Deliver high-quality geospatial data products and technical documentation in alignment with FWS requirements.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of professional experience with Esri's ArcGIS suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
Proven ability to manage enterprise GIS systems and provide data management/analysis support.
Experience with SharePoint Online and FME (Desktop/Server).
Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to lead groups and facilitate collaborative solutions.
Bachelor's degree or higher in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Information Systems, or related field.
