YugabyteDB Engineer / Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and proactive YugabyteDB Manager to lead the deployment, administration, and performance optimization of YugabyteDB a high-performance, distributed SQL database for cloud-native applications. This role is critical to ensuring database scalability, availability, and reliability across our enterprise systems. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong collaboration and documentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and manage YugabyteDB clusters across various environments.
• Ensure database performance, uptime, and scalability through proactive monitoring and tuning.
• Manage version upgrades, patches, and backup/recovery strategies.
• Analyze and optimize complex SQL queries and workloads.
• Investigate and resolve database-related performance issues and outages.
• Implement and enforce best practices for security, compliance, and operational resilience.
• Partner with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to align database configurations with application requirements.
• Advise on database architecture and schema design during new application development.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of cluster configurations, maintenance procedures, and incident resolutions.
• Generate and present regular reports on database health, resource usage, and performance metrics.
• Evaluate new YugabyteDB releases, features, and ecosystem tools for potential adoption.
• Stay current with industry trends and evolving best practices in distributed databases and cloud-native data platforms.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• Strong working knowledge of YugabyteDB, especially its PostgreSQL-compatible layer.
• Proficiency in SQL, query tuning, and database performance diagnostics.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized deployment models.
• Understanding of database replication, consistency models, and distributed systems.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing distributed databases or equivalent large-scale RDBMS systems.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring, automation, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Terraform, Ansible).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in migrating applications or databases to YugabyteDB.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating database workflows into DevOps environments.
• Exposure to additional distributed databases (e.g., CockroachDB, Amazon Aurora, Google Spanner).
