Scope of Services

This project supports disaster recovery objectives for OpenVMS. Presently, when a node fails, users are forced to reauthenticate and wait for applications to relocate. The candidate duties to the ACMS Everywhere tasks will include:

  • Synchronize both nodes so all applications are available from either node. Assist and help design modifications to startup and shutdown procedures to properly configure the clusters for DR operation.
  • Enable automatic failover: If one node fails, users simply log back in seamlessly. Research, test, and implement appropriate user weighting such that users will address the proper machines in the event of a system outage.
  • Implement as part of the x86 hybrid strategy, using virtualized x86 servers as Plan B. Ensure that techniques developed and utilized for the existing Legacy environment will perform equally, or better, in the upcoming modern x86 platform environment.

Assist in designing the Motion environment, including networking, storage, applications, and testing.

  • Minimize disruption to business operations and allow VMS resources to concentrate on recovery efforts.

Assist in designing and implementing automatic data center failover procedures to minimize user downtime.

Design and recommend additional resource requirements if needed.

  • Identify COBOL files for Accounts Payable, Judges Evaluation, and Revenue

Plan and assist in migration from the current Legacy environment to the modern x86 platform.

  • Assist with Cybersecurity Unit's initiative to implement a popup while logging into VMS
Minimum Qualifications

In addition to the standard skills and experience for the job class, the ideal candidate should have the following skills:

Technical Competencies:

  • VAX COBOL Programming 10+ years
  • DEC VAX Administration 10+ years
  • Security Practices & Policies 8+ years
