Monitoring and Observability Engineer - Cloud Platforms
Contract Length: 12 months + potential extension
Location: Dallas, Texas Hybrid (4 days onsite downtown Dallas)
Shift: May include rotating after-hours or weekend support

We are seeking a mid-level Enterprise Observability Engineer for our Dallas client. This role focuses on designing and implementing automated monitoring solutions, managing observability tools (Dynatrace, ThousandEyes, Evolven), and supporting 24/7 production environments in both on-premise and cloud infrastructures.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 4+ years in IT operations, infrastructure, or application monitoring
  • Strong experience with Dynatrace (APM, infrastructure monitoring)
  • Some familiarity with Ftrace, ThousandEyes, Evolven
  • Experience with intelligence platforms (e.g., Moogsoft, BigPanda)
  • Hands-on experience in scripting (Python, Perl, Java), REST APIs, and webhooks
  • Solid knowledge of cloud-native monitoring (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and Kubernetes/OpenShift environments
  • Experience with Unix, Linux, and Windows system
  • Experience with log analysis and application tracing
  • SLO/SLI metrics integration
  • Strong communication and documentation skills


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor infrastructure, applications, and websites; resolve Level 1 issues and escalate when necessary
  • Perform advanced Level 2 diagnostics, including log analysis and performance troubleshooting
  • Design and configure observability tools such as Ftrace, ThousandEyes, Evolven
  • Implement Level 0 automation (e.g., auto-ticketing, alert routing)
  • Integrate data into event intelligence platforms for real-time visibility
  • Lead and coordinate incident response using observability insights
  • Maintain shift logs and ensure effective communication during shift handovers
  • Train and support teams on monitoring tools and processes
  • Collaborate on SLO/SLI metrics and performance tuning
  • Participate in on-call rotation, including after-hours/weekend shifts
  • Obtain Dynatrace Specialist certification within 6 months of hire
