Engineering Supervisor - Substations

Location: Remote (U.S. Based)

We're looking for an Engineering Supervisor - Substations to spearhead key design and protection initiatives for high-voltage transmission and distribution systems in a fast-paced engineering consulting firm focused on power infrastructure. This fully remote opportunity offers a chance to work on impactful energy solutions while mentoring a team of skilled engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex substation protection and control engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Oversee the creation and modification of electrical design documentation including one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, panel arrangements, cable routing, and bills of materials.
  • Guide the design and integration of auxiliary AC/DC systems, SCADA interfaces, and communications for substation control systems.
  • Conduct and review engineering calculations including voltage drop, short circuit analysis, battery sizing, and relay coordination studies.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, clients, designers, and drafting personnel to align on project scopes and execution.
  • Conduct site walk-downs to assess requirements and verify project readiness.
  • Participate in procurement planning, including coordinating material deliveries and participating in vendor discussions.
  • Support and attend project meetings, providing technical insight and contributing to strategic planning.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Supervise a growing team of engineers, providing mentorship, performance evaluations, and career development support.
  • Lead by example in promoting a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment in alignment with company values and policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • EIT certification required; PE license highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience designing protection and control systems for high-voltage substations (15kV 500kV).
  • Strong understanding of substation design standards and utility-level project lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor junior engineering staff.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
