The Role

GM's Infrastructure Engineering organization seeks a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the strategy, planning, reporting, and execution of SRE programs across multiple teams.

In this role, you will partner with the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization and will drive cross-functional programs to deliver robust, reliable, and scalable infrastructure supporting our technology and cloud environments. This leader will play a pivotal role in defining, executing, and evolving Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and oversee Production Readiness Review (PRR) processes, ensuring all systems and services meet stringent reliability and operational excellence targets.

We are seeking a TPM who demonstrates strength in three key areas:
  • Technical Expertise: Possesses broad software engineering knowledge with deep experience in cloud infrastructure, large-scale production systems, and distributed systems reliability
  • Program Management: Has hands-on experience directing cross-functional, highly technical programs while tracking and reporting on progress, resourcing requirements, and risks
  • Communication: Can clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, building trust and ensuring understanding among stakeholders

What you'll be doing:
  • Lead and drive programs for SLO definition, measurement, tracking, and cross-org adoption; partner closely with engineering, product, and program teams to establish and operationalize reliability objectives across critical services
  • In partnership with SRE engineering managers, continuously improve the Production Readiness Review (PRR) framework, ensuring all launches and upgrades undergo thorough technical and operational vetting for reliability, scalability, and supportability
  • Develop and review detailed program plans, balancing long-term vision with immediate agile needs and risk management
  • Build effective reporting and monitoring systems to track operational health, SLO compliance, and postmortem learnings, driving informed prioritization of reliability investments
  • Partner across cross-functional teams to handle dependencies, unblock delivery, and ensure high standards in operational excellence are met
  • Communicate proactively and clearly with stakeholders, leadership, and cross-functional partners on program status, risks, resolutions, progress, and wins
  • Drive adoption and continuous improvement in automation, tooling, and best practices for reliability engineering
  • Facilitate deep technical discussions, surface critical tradeoffs, and support incident postmortems and root cause analysis processes to foster a learning, resilient organization
  • Guide quarterly and annual planning for reliability initiatives, establish objectives and key results tied to reliability outcomes, and align team efforts with broader organizational goals
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement in production readiness and SRE best practices throughout engineering and product organizations

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering organizations
  • Several years of experience as a TPM or in a comparable role, with a track record of creating and scaling SRE or production readiness frameworks
  • Demonstrated success owning and driving key reliability programs, including SLOs, incident management, or production readiness reviews
  • Familiarity with operational health monitoring, distributed systems reliability, incident response, and postmortem processes
  • Strong technical understanding to articulate system-level tradeoffs, identify risks, and probe critical paths and dependencies
  • Excellent program management skills: roadmap development, prioritization, execution tracking, stakeholder engagement, and reporting

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Extensive hands-on experience working with Site Reliability Engineering, cloud infrastructure, or large-scale production systems
  • Ability to thrive amid ambiguity and influence without formal authority across engineering teams
