The Army Division, Resilient Command and Control (C2) and Communication Department at MITRE is seeking a dynamic and innovative RF communication engineer supporting the Project Manager Tactical Network (PM TN) initiative. At MITRE, we are at the forefront of advancing the Army's operational readiness by shaping the next generation of unified network transport and associated services. This critical work is designed to deliver resilient, secure, and scalable communications for Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO)-ensuring Soldiers can successfully operate and exchange vital data in limited, contested, and distributed network environments. This position is an exciting role to assist in the development of technical approaches focused on working closely with Army stakeholders to enable Soldiers to successfully operate and exchange critical data in limited, contested and distributed environments with increasing resiliency and security.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Tasks and initiatives will focus on delivering agnostic transport capabilities that seamlessly leverage all possible communications pathways, satellite orbits, frequency bands and terrestrial communications, with automated Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency (PACE) capabilities that are transparent to the Soldier. This project is of strategic value within the Army Program and includes working closely with Army' technology leaders and technology developers.
  • Architect solutions that integrate SATCOM and PACE capabilities to support distributed C2 and edge computing environments.
  • Ensure reliable network connectivity for mobile units operating in dynamic and challenging environments.
  • Develop scalable and resilient communication architectures to support evolving operational demands and data-centric workflows.
  • Engineer solutions that optimize network performance in disrupted, disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth conditions.
  • Implement technologies and protocols to counteract signal interference, including enemy jamming, environmental disruptions, and bandwidth constraints.
  • Design networks with built-in redundancy and dynamic routing capabilities to maintain connectivity under adverse conditions.
  • Understanding sponsor needs, anticipate challenges, and shape project work to address critical mission requirements.
  • Work closely with military and civilian government experts from across the directorate to address their critical mission needs, identify relevant emerging technologies, and create advanced solutions to address gaps in Army network modernization challenges.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in ngineering (Systems or EE) or a related technical field; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Experience with enterprise, tactical, or military network systems, including wired, wireless, and satellite communications.
  • Knowledge of DDIL environments and techniques for maintaining connectivity in degraded conditions
  • Expertise in systems engineering processes, including requirements analysis, system design, integration, and testing.
  • Strong understanding of multi-path routing, adaptive networking, and resilient communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as 5G, IoT, software-defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV), and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) for network optimization.
  • Experience with PACE communications frameworks and adaptive network design.
  • Strong understanding of data-centric operations and tactical edge computing
  • Knowledge of tactical network military-specific requirements, such as HT/LL communications, mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), and mission-critical systems.
  • The ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues, including performance bottlenecks, configuration errors, and vulnerabilities.
  • Ability to establish clear goals for integrating LEO SATCOM systems, such as improving redundancy, reducing latency, increasing bandwidth, or enabling global coverage.
  • Support and define testing, and validation of SATCOM hardware and software components.
  • Possess and maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Phd / MS in Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of emerging network technology trends, resilient communication strategies and solutions
  • Strong understanding of emerging commercial SATCOM and cyber technology trends
  • Hands-on experience with Army C5ISR tactical systems, integration challenges and network modernization goals
