The Senior Manager, Technology Risk Champion, is responsible for advancing and sustaining a robust technology and cyber risk posture across their assigned Technology sub-organization. This role is highly risk-focused, providing strategic support to senior executives and ensuring the effective prioritization, management, and mitigation of risks. The manager will lead efforts to identify, assess, and address both current and emerging risks-including those associated with new technologies and trends such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, cloud computing, and other digital innovations. The ability to partner with all levels of management, oversight areas, and peers is essential, as is deep experience in technology risk management, risk and controls blueprints, and governance.

The Technology Risk Champion Senior Manager will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Partner with Managing Directors and Directors to ensure consistent application of risk management principles and proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide executive visibility into the risk portfolio, representing and communicating risk exposures and mitigation plans for the assigned sub-organization.
  • Identify, assess, and resolve program escalations, focusing on downward trending Key Risk Indicators and emerging risk trends, including those related to AI and other advanced technologies.
  • Develop and distribute risk scorecards and dashboards, with an emphasis on reducing overall organizational risk and highlighting risks associated with new technology adoption.
  • Communicate key audit and exam gaps, enabling prioritization of critical remediation activities, especially those involving innovative or rapidly evolving technologies.
  • Manage control procedures, maintaining inventory, content, accuracy, and completeness, with attention to controls relevant to emerging technologies.
  • Proactively identify new and emerging risks, including those posed by AI, automation, and other technology trends, and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Support audits and control validation exercises as a subject matter expert, with a focus on technology risk and the impact of emerging trends.
  • Provide strategic risk insights both vertically and horizontally, and perform other risk duties as assigned.

Other duties include:
  • Build strong relationships and partner closely with business and technology teams across Charles Schwab Corporation and its affiliates.
  • Develop internal processes and tools to increase team efficiency and continually mature risk operations, incorporating best practices for managing risks related to new technologies.
  • Minimal travel may be required for training and ongoing program development.
