RACF Mainframe Security Consultant

We are seeking an experienced RACF Mainframe Security Consultant to design, implement, and support enterprise-scale RACF security solutions in large z/OS environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in RACF administration, compliance frameworks, and mainframe security controls, with the ability to collaborate across infrastructure, application, and audit teams to ensure secure and efficient operations.
Responsibilities
  • Administer and manage RACF security, including profiles, groups, permissions, and access controls across multiple LPARs.
  • Conduct security assessments, user provisioning/de-provisioning, and compliance validation.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to maintain RACF databases, implement exits, and optimize security rules.
  • Support internal and external audits (SOX, PCI, HIPAA, etc.) by preparing reports and driving remediation efforts.
  • Troubleshoot RACF-related issues impacting applications, system performance, or user access.
  • Utilize RACF utilities (IRRUT200, IRRUT400), RLIST, SETROPTS, and SMF reporting to manage and validate security.
  • Define and implement RACF security policies, standards, and procedures in alignment with enterprise security architecture.
  • Mentor junior team members and transfer knowledge to client stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience administering RACF in z/OS mainframe environments.
  • Strong expertise with RACF database utilities, exits, rules, and SMF reporting.
  • Solid understanding of z/OS internals, including JES2/3, TSO/ISPF, and JCL.
  • Proven experience collaborating with compliance and audit teams (SOX, PCI, HIPAA).
  • Familiarity with multifactor authentication, encryption, and cryptographic controls in mainframes.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning of RACF security.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CA-Top Secret or ACF2 for cross-domain mainframe security integration.
  • Knowledge of automation using REXX, CLIST, or frameworks to streamline RACF administration.
  • Exposure to enterprise IAM solutions (SailPoint, Okta, etc.) and RACF integration.
  • Relevant certifications such as IBM z/OS Security Specialist or CISSP.
