Position Title: Senior Data Scientist (Azure/Databricks)
Location: Raleigh, NC (100% Onsite)
Clearance Requirements: Must be able to obtain a Position of Public Trust Clearance
Position Status: Contract
Pay Rate: $70 $80/hr
Position Description
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist with deep expertise in Azure Cloud and Databricks to lead enterprise-scale cloud, data engineering, and machine learning initiatives. In this role, you will design and implement modern data solutions, optimize cloud environments, and provide strategic guidance to senior leadership. You ll also play a key role in mentoring teams, driving cloud migrations, and shaping data-driven innovation across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of ETL workloads into Azure/Databricks, optimizing pipelines and integrating machine learning models.
- Architect and implement scalable, cost-efficient cloud solutions using Azure, Databricks, Spark, and Big Data technologies.
- Partner with senior leadership to assess organizational effectiveness and recommend strategic cloud initiatives.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Azure environments, ensuring operational excellence.
- Mentor ETL and data engineering teams on cloud best practices, automation, and workflow optimization.
- Automate processes, enforce standards, and ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables.
- Present technical updates and insights to CIO-level leadership in clear, business-oriented terms.
- Create and maintain documentation for deployments, workflows, and best practices.
- Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions covering monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, and cloud security.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 15+ years of IT experience in systems architecture, cloud engineering, or data science.
- 10+ years designing and implementing cloud solutions, with team leadership and project delivery experience.
- Hands-on expertise in Azure Cloud operations (compute, networking, databases).
- Advanced proficiency in Databricks, Apache Spark, and Big Data platforms.
- Strong scripting skills in Python, Perl, or Ruby for automation and data processing.
- Deep understanding of ETL processes, cloud-based pipeline optimization, and automation.
- Experience with DevOps practices and Git-based CI/CD workflows.
- Familiarity with open-source tools such as Hadoop, Flume, and Sqoop.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in fast-paced, high-availability environments.
- Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) and analytics platforms (e.g., SAS, Hadoop).
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Desired Skills
- Cloud networking at scale with the ability to simplify complex networking concepts.
- Proficiency in PowerShell and Shell scripting for automation.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks, NLP, and Big Data analytics.
Education & Certification
- Master s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field (required).
