Summary:

The role involves leading and coordinating statewide commemorative activities by collaborating with community leaders, historical and educational institutions, and tourism partners. Responsibilities include strategic planning, budget monitoring, event and program development, marketing and public outreach, website maintenance, and serving as the primary liaison to both internal and national stakeholders. The position also oversees professional staff and ensures continuity of existing marketing, grants, and project initiatives.

Ideal candidates will have a degree in History, Education, Political Science, or a related field, with at least three years of experience in public outreach, partnership development, communications, or administration. Strong leadership, communication, research, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and sound judgment in high-profile decision-making.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the client to devise strategic planning.
  • Monitor budget and make recommendations for expenditures.
  • Interact with state-wide entities regarding commemorative activities.
  • Develop, promote, and market strategies to ensure awareness of commemorative activities.
  • Build consensus with community leaders, historical organizations, educational venues, and tourism to promote and conduct commemorative activities.
  • Provide support on program, event, and campaign planning for state-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain client s website.
  • Serve as Chair of the client Committee.
  • Supervise Marketing Specialist professional level staff.
  • Continue projects in place for the marketing, grant programs, projects that have been instituted under the oversight of the previous Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate or bachelor s degree in History, Education, Political Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in outreach, public programming, partnership building, government relations, communications, or administration.
  • Excellent research, writing, copy editing, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusiveness across all areas of the planning and activity.
  • Exceptional management skills: the ability to influence key audiences and individuals.
  • Poise and confidence are needed to establish credibility and respect with high-visibility audiences and individuals and the media.
  • Excellent interpersonal and intrapersonal dynamic skills and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to make difficult or unpopular decisions as warranted.
