Role: Cobol Software Engineer

Location: Plano, TX

Duration: Long Term Contract (Contract to Hire)

Job Description:

Key Skills:

  • Mainframe COBOL
  • Open to learning Python and Java. They do not need to know Java but need to be open to learning.
  • Roadmap to working and replacing legacy code from COBOL to Java

About your role:

  • As a Software Engineer on our Output Solutions team, you will utilize your COBOL development skills to provide operational and technical support of batch jobs related to the company s enterprise systems to ensure they run reliably, accurately, and successfully.
  • You will also be involved with the implementation of new technologies for innovative solutions for this area of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain existing applications and troubleshoot/fix code as needed
  • Create innovative solutions using new technologies to replace older code/systems, reduce outages, and improve efficiency
  • Monitor and manage multiple environment systems and applications
  • Identify production problems and find solutions in a timely manner
  • Design and create automation to enhance functional and operational aspects of systems
  • Identify, evaluate, recommend, and report process improvement solutions
  • Ensure that all monitoring points and proper remediation/escalation procedures are documented
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and off-hours support

Experience you'll need to have:

  • 5 years of experience in application development in COBOL programming
  • 1-2 years of experience in Java or similar programming languages
  • 1-2 years of experience in CORE Framework, API/Web services/Micro Services
  • 1-2 years of experience in SQL databases
  • 1+ years of experience with scripting languages such as DOS Command (bat), python, or JavaScript
  • Bachelor s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, work, and/or military experience
