As a Compute & Storage Engineer, we'll rely on you to provide infrastructure services focusing on designing, installing, configuring, integrating, and automating various technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise and guidance for design and installation projects using multiple technologies to keep our infrastructure running smoothly.

Our Engineering groups continue to adapt and evolve into a more converged team, and while the focus of this position is storage-centric, we expect and encourage all our engineers to cross train to build skills and expertise in all aspects of our Infrastructure.

this role, you will:
  • Provide advanced level infrastructure services, including installing, configuring, integrating enterprise data center and cloud technologies.
  • Obtain quotes and justifies business need.
  • Identify stake holders and participates in project teams.
  • Conduct functional testing and provides recommendations based on the results.
  • Verify installations meet production acceptance standards
  • Design and implement solutions with a focus on observability and automation
  • Provide advanced Tier 3 services for multiple moderate to complex issues elevated from tier 2 support groups. Identify failing components and recommend corrective action. Identify performance issues, interpret trends, and implement improvements
  • Create documentation, including knowledge articles, policies and procedures, and diagrams
  • Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity testing
  • Add, update, and close records in the IT Problem Management and Change Management systems
  • Train and mentor staff operations teams. Conduct formal and informal knowledge sharing sessions, one-on-one sessions
  • Participate in and support capacity planning activities, including monitoring and tracking capacity metrics. Initiate actions to prevent degradation caused by capacity issues
  • Interface with technical leads of Vanguard's engineering team; designing, configuring and maintaining innovative solutions in the infrastructure

What it takes:

Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.

Minimum of 3+ years infrastructure engineering experience.

Experience with compute and storage infrastructures

Experience with DevOps

Experience with Agile and Lean programs

Ability to be in an on-call rotation

Functional knowledge on the following focused areas:

NAS file storage including CIFS/NFS (Netapp/EMC/AWS)

Object Storage including (EMC ECS, AWS S3, VXR)

Fiber Channel Block Storage (EMC/Cisco)

Dell Powermax

Experience with Vmware vSphere 7+, Vmware Aria Suite

HCI solutions (vSAN, VxRail)

Recoverpoint for VM

Set yourself apart:

Knowledge of IT infrastructure and workflows: hardware, OS, networking, storage, databases, etc.

Adequate understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle principles through GitOps

Automation/Orchestration experience: Ex: Ansible, Decisions, Postman, ServiceNow, Git... including strong coding/scripting experience in at least one language

Knowledge or experience with CloudFormation, Lambdas, StepFunctions...

Knowledge of FSX / NetApp suite of products

Adequate technical competencies with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery Pipeline process and technologies through the Atlassian product suite (Bitbucket, Bamboo, JIRA and Confluence)

Previous API development experience a plus

Independent self-starter to support projects from design to production

Strong written and verbal skills and Strong interpersonal skills
