Job Title: ETL Tester / SQL Tester

Location: USA Remote

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented ETL Tester / SQL Tester to validate data pipelines, ETL processes, data transformations, and database systems. This role ensures the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data across enterprise data warehouses, analytics platforms, and reporting systems.

The ideal candidate has strong SQL skills, ETL testing experience, and an understanding of data models, ETL workflows, and data validation frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

ETL & Data Pipeline Testing

  • Validate ETL workflows across tools like Informatica, Talend, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or similar.
  • Verify data extraction, transformation rules, and loading logic.
  • Perform source-to-target mapping validation and lineage testing.
  • Test batch ETL, real-time data flows, and scheduled jobs.

SQL & Database Testing

  • Write complex SQL queries to validate data transformations.
  • Perform data profiling, data quality checks, and reconciliation.
  • Validate stored procedures, triggers, views, and functions.
  • Conduct performance testing on SQL queries and data loads.

BI & Reporting Validation

  • Test dashboards, metrics, and reports built in Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar tools.
  • Validate business logic, aggregations, and calculated fields.

Automation & Scripting (Optional but Valuable)

  • Develop automated test scripts for ETL validation.
  • Use frameworks like Python + SQL, Selenium + DB, or data validation tools.

Defect Management & Collaboration

  • Log, track, and retest defects using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Work with ETL developers, data engineers, and BI teams to resolve issues.
  • Participate in requirements reviews and contribute to test strategy design.

Documentation

  • Prepare test plans, test cases, test scripts, and traceability matrices.
  • Maintain detailed execution reports and ETL testing documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 2 5+ years of experience as an ETL Tester, SQL Tester, or Data QA Engineer.
  • Strong SQL experience (joins, aggregations, subqueries, window functions).
  • Hands-on experience with at least one ETL tool:
    • Informatica PowerCenter
    • Talend
    • SSIS
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Databricks / Spark ETL
  • Understanding of relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) or cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts (ETL, OLTP, OLAP, SCD, star/snowflake schemas).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Knowledge of Python or shell scripting for automation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and data validation frameworks.
  • Experience with data quality tools (Informatica DQ, Great Expectations).
