Work Arrangement

Onsite - This role requires the employee to be onsite on a full time basis. Primary work location will be the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, MI. This role will require some domestic travel to various manufacturing sites. Potential sites would be Kokomo, IN.

The Role

The Autonomous Robotics Center (ARC) team is seeking a Controls Engineer to join our team. In this role you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing control systems for automated machinery and processes.

Your expertise in PLC programming, HMI development, and control system troubleshooting will be essential in optimizing our manufacturing operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies, ensure system performance and safety, and provide technical support to maintenance and production teams.

What You Will Do
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for automated machinery and processes.
  • Program and configure PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and other control devices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with control systems and automated equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies and optimize existing systems.
  • Conduct testing and validation of control systems to ensure performance and safety standards are met.
  • Create and maintain documentation for control systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and software programs.
  • Provide technical support and training to maintenance and production teams.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in automation technology.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 3+ years of professional experience in automation and control systems engineering.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI development.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel design.
  • Experience with industrial networks and communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus)
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.


What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience with robotics and motion control systems.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to automation.
  • Certification in automation or control systems engineering.
  • Experience with AI and Autonomous vehicles
