Job Summary:
The Senior Windows and VMware Engineer is responsible for the implementation,
administration, and support of enterprise-grade Microsoft Windows Server and VMware
environments. This role plays a critical part in ensuring infrastructure stability,
performance, and scalability, with a strong focus on migration projects, virtualization,
and automation.
Job Description:
1. Windows Server Administration
Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments
(2012/2016/2019/2022).
Perform in-place and parallel upgrades of Windows Server systems with minimal
downtime.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Windows OS, Active Directory, DNS,
DHCP, and Group Policy.
Design, implement, and manage Windows Server Clustering for application and
database high availability.
Monitor system performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative
tools and utilities.
Maintain system security through access controls, backups, and firewalls.
Collaborate with application and database teams to ensure seamless integration
and performance.
Document system configurations, procedures, and changes.
Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated issues.
2. VMware Infrastructure Management
Administer VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, NSX, and SRM.
Configure and manage HA, DRS, vMotion, and Storage vMotion.
Perform regular health checks, patching, and upgrades of VMware infrastructure.
Troubleshoot complex virtualization issues and provide L3-L4 support.
3. Migration & Modernization Projects
Lead or support migration of legacy Windows Servers to newer versions.
Plan and execute VMware infrastructure upgrades and hardware refreshes.
Perform P2V and V2V migrations using tools like PlateSpin, VMware Converter.
Assist in cloud migration initiatives (Azure/AWS/Hybrid).
4. Backup and Security
Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery strategies.
Ensure compliance with security standards (PCI-DSS, ISO, DISA STIGs).
Collaborate with security teams to apply baselines and perform vulnerability
remediation.
Develop PowerShell and PowerCLI scripts for automation of routine tasks.
6. Documentation & Collaboration
Maintain detailed documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
Work closely with application, network, and database teams for integrated
support.
Participate in change management and incident resolution processes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
10-15 years of experience in Windows Server and VMware administration.
Proven experience in server and virtualization migrations.
Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, PowerCLI).
Certifications preferred: MCSE, VCP-DCV, ITIL Foundation.
