Job Title: Fiber Design Technician I
Department: Outside Plant Design
Location: Remote
Job Type: Contract w/ Possible Extension
Position Summary:
The Fiber Design Technician I is responsible for designing fiber optic paths from the light source to the customer, utilizing both existing and new fiber infrastructure. This entry-level role supports the Outside Plant (OSP) design team and collaborates closely with splicers and field technicians to ensure accurate and efficient fiber deployment.

Job Title: Fiber Design Technician I

Position Summary:
The Fiber Design Technician I is responsible for designing fiber optic paths from the light source to the customer, utilizing both existing and new fiber infrastructure. Key Responsibilities:
- Design fiber routes from central office or hub to customer premises using GIS and design tools.
- Collaborate with splicing teams to troubleshoot discrepancies between design documentation and field conditions.
- Verify handhole locations, splice points, and other field data to ensure design accuracy.
- Maintain accurate records and update databases with design and field verification data.
- Work in a production environment with strict deadlines and deliverables.
Required Skills:
- Ability to design fiber paths across various plant types (aerial, underground, new, and existing).
- Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve fiber path issues in collaboration with field teams.
- Effective communication and coordination with splicers and other technical staff.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Comfortable working under time constraints in a fast-paced environment.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Outside Plant (OSP) design.
- Familiarity with fiber design databases and documentation standards.
- Experience with GIS-based design tools and fiber management systems.
- Knowledge of Network Manager or similar platforms is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical certification in telecommunications, engineering, or related field.
- Prior experience in telecom or utility industry design roles.
- Basic understanding of fiber optic technology and splicing practices.
