IT Infrastructure & Mainframe Manager
Location: New York, NY (10004) | Onsite | Full-Time | Permanent
Overview:
A leading New York City organization is seeking an accomplished IT Infrastructure & Mainframe Manager to direct enterprise-level mainframe and infrastructure operations within its Shared Systems Division.
This leadership position combines technical depth with strategic management, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and modernization of mission-critical systems supporting citywide services.
The ideal candidate is an experienced infrastructure professional with hands-on expertise in IBM z/OS (or equivalent AIX/Linux/Unix environments), proven success leading technical teams, and a strong record of optimizing large-scale data center performance.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Systems Leadership
Manage and mentor the Mainframe Systems team, driving collaboration and technical excellence.
Oversee enterprise mainframe operations including subsystems, storage, and program products.
Lead z/OS administration, system performance management, hardware configuration, and disaster-recovery strategy.
Establish and enforce infrastructure standards, documentation, and compliance policies.
Provide 24/7 oversight for critical production issues and scheduled upgrades.
Performance & Capacity Management
Analyze system performance and capacity data to ensure efficient resource utilization.
Conduct daily, monthly, and annual capacity planning aligned with organizational growth.
Project & Technology Management
Direct projects involving hardware refreshes, software upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements.
Develop project plans, assign resources, and deliver initiatives on time and within scope.
Research, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies to strengthen infrastructure resiliency.
Vendor & Fiscal Oversight
Build and maintain strong partnerships with hardware and software vendors.
Serve as liaison for capacity planning, procurement, and support contracts.
Develop fiscal roadmaps for hardware/software lifecycle management, capacity expansion, and cost-reduction initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and at least 4 years of experience in data center or infrastructure engineering/operations;
ORBachelor s degree in any discipline and 8 years of relevant full-time experience;
OREquivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills
15 20 years of experience managing large-scale IT infrastructure or data center environments.
Expertise in IBM mainframe systems (z/OS, subsystems, internals) or comparable experience with AIX/Linux/Unix infrastructure and enterprise storage systems.
Strong knowledge of system architecture, performance tuning, and security frameworks.
Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and executing complex infrastructure projects.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Self-motivated leader with the ability to learn and integrate new technologies quickly.
