Job Description Senior Project Manager (Device & Software Refresh)

Position Title: Senior Project Manager
Location: Remote/ Illinois Based Only. 
Duration: Through December 31, 2025 
Vendor: Alert IT Solutions, Inc.

Position Overview

The State of IL, in partnership with Alert IT Solutions Inc., is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead the statewide Device and Software Refresh Management initiative.

This role requires hands-on project oversight of Windows 11 upgrade readiness across ~6,000 devices, coordination of agency reporting and replacement planning, and support of imaging and deployment processes. The ideal candidate will combine traditional project management, business analysis, and technical coordination skills to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Device Eligibility Management
    • Oversee identification of devices with <64 GB of free disk space.
    • Coordinate with technicians to free up space and track remediation progress.
  2. Ineligible Devices (Non-Windows 11 Compatible)
    • Track, monitor, and report on each agency s plans to replace ineligible devices (~6,000 units).
    • Maintain dashboards and progress reports for 54 state agencies under DoIT scope.
    • Serve as liaison between agencies and DoIT leadership for replacement scheduling.
  3. Imaging & Deployment
    • Coordinate with the imaging team to support large-scale device imaging and replacement.
    • Track agency submissions for new device requests and ensure timely approvals.
    • Ensure proper planning and scheduling of imaging activities across agencies.
  4. Project Management & Reporting
    • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and risk registers.
    • Provide weekly status reports and progress metrics to DoIT leadership.
    • Escalate risks/issues affecting delivery and collaborate on mitigation strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in IT, Business, or related field (Master s preferred).
  • 7+ years of Project Management experience, with at least 3 years in enterprise device refresh, O/S upgrades, or IT infrastructure modernization.
  • Strong ability to manage large inventories (5,000+ devices) and multi-agency coordination.
  • Proficiency in Agile and traditional PM methods; PMP or CSM certification strongly preferred.
  • Skilled in data analysis, reporting, and stakeholder communications.
  • Familiarity with device imaging, disk management, and Windows 11 compatibility requirements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business stakeholders.

Desired Skills

  • Experience working with state government or large public-sector IT modernization projects.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, SCCM/MECM, or other enterprise device management tools.
  • Understanding of CJIS/FTI compliance requirements.
