Walker Healthforce is seeking a Medical Underwriter with 3+ years to support a healthcare client based out of Illinois. This is a 4-month contract to hire opportunity.

WORKER TYPE: Full-Time W2
CORE REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s degree or two years’ experience in Group health insurance functions, underwriting support, or systems and programming.
- Minimum of 3 years of direct Underwriting experience
- Prior experience preparing, rating, and issuing proposal quotes based on predefined guidelines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel and Outlook.
- Strong mathematical skills and ability to estimate for mathematical reasonableness.
- Ability to gather, organize, input, analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources.
- Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills to include correct grammar, word choice, precision, conciseness, structure, audience appropriate tone and language.
- Comfort with computer technology, specifically web-based systems. Additionally, the ability to effectively follow and apply established workflows, standard techniques and procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of health care products and covered eligibility.
- Knowledge of state and federal legislation governing underwriting practices.
- Learn and apply standard underwriting principles and procedures to evaluate risk.
- Utilize systems necessary to retrieve and analyze data
- Quote and rate proposals within established authority guidelines, and within the specified department service level timelines.
- Make sound underwriting decisions within established authority guidelines
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with coworkers, management, Sales and Marketing, and other internal department staff
- Research and organize data to present to higher level underwriters when outside established authority guidelines
- Keep informed of all changes made to Corporate Systems, Underwriting Applications, databases, report systems and rating applications.
