Job Description
Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Wallace Battery Cell Innovation Center in Warren, Michigan on a full-time basis.
The Role
This role is an excellen t opportunity for a technical lead in the advanced battery cell engineering team at Wallace Battery Cell Innovation Center (WBCIC) . The Staff Engineer should have a broad technical understanding of advanced battery cell chemistries, state of the art cell and cell-component design, technology roadmaps from the suppliers, combined with creative and strategic thinking that translates to business impact .
We are seeking a candidate with a passion for advanced cell technology as it relates to automotive batteries, and a desire to continuously learn new things ! You will be responsible for leveraging your technical expertise to compl e ment a talented team of advanced cell build engineers , to develop and implement solutions for cell design, and builds that meet program timelines . The ideal candidate must be comfortable speaking and presenting to internal and external audiences, including suppliers and vendors from a variety of backgrounds , to support GM's advanced battery cell milestones.

What You'll Do
- S erv e as a technical lead er for all aspects of cell builds in advanced battery cell engineer ing and WBCIC operations , guiding future planning and manag ing key strategic initiatives and projects with key stakeholders, suppliers and vendors .
- Formulate strategic technical plan s that align with broader battery cell business objectives , ensuring the efficient execution of engineering goals.
- Drive business decisions based on sound technical reasoning.
- Actively engage R&D, cell design, product execution, and manufacturing engineering, vertical teams and senior leadership to align on technical requirements for cell builds at the WBCIC.
- Be a recognized leader across the cell portfolio, and supplier base, representing GM on major cell-level milestones.
- Champion GM's core values through technical excellence, adherence to industry standards, and collaboration with engineering teams to drive innovation.
- Lead internal technical projects and collaborate on cross-functional team initiatives, driving engineering-focused contributions to enhance overall project outcomes.
- Track ongoing projects and provide relevant and succinct technical status updates to stakeholders at a regular cadence , identifying and escalating critical risks to maintain progress and mitigate potential roadblocks.
- Assist leadership in developing accurate time estimates and defining technical priorities while fostering opportunities for mentoring and skill growth across the team .
- Stay up to date on the latest operational equipment and emerging technologies, providing engineering support and recommendations to neighboring operation al teams to promote safe operations, improved quality , and cutting-edge processes.
- Act as a technical representative of the Advanced Cell Development team within the product engineering community, ensuring alignment between development and testing strategies.
- Stay informed on upcoming product development within the electrification community to ensure alignment with capabilities, maintaining safety, quality, and on-time execution.
- Identify technical safety initiatives, ensure adherence to best practices, and support training efforts related to equipment handling, laboratory procedures, and compliance requirements.
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, or other related Science Degree
- 7+ years of battery cell experience or similar relevant cell engineering experience
- 2+ years of prismatic battery cell build experience
- Strong analytical skills for data analysis, project management, and problem-solving
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team environment
- Persuasive communication and presentation skills
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master ' s Degree, PhD, or other advanced certifications related to the cell space
- Experience mentoring and coaching other engineers and professionals
