Sr. Azure Data Engineer

A senior Azure (12+ years) Data Engineer/ETL Lead with experience orchestrating data migrations from legacy systems to cloud-based platforms such as Workday and UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group). This is a highly client-facing role requiring excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Description: We are seeking a seasoned ETL Lead Data Engineer with over 10 years of experience in data engineering and migration, particularly within the Azure Data Suite. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in orchestrating data migrations from legacy systems to cloud-based platforms such as Workday and UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group). This is a highly client-facing role requiring excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end data migration efforts from on-premise and legacy platforms to SaaS systems like Workday and UKG, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and business continuity.
- Partner closely with business stakeholders, project managers, and implementation teams to define data migration strategies, timelines, and deliverables.
- Analyze and map complex datasets using SQL and Azure-native ETL tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF), Databricks, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Ensure data integrity across systems by conducting rigorous validation and reconciliation.
- Proactively identify and resolve data quality issues through profiling, cleansing, and transformation best practices.
- Drive the creation and maintenance of detailed technical documentation including data dictionaries, transformation rules, and data flow diagrams.
- Act as a technical leader and mentor to junior data engineers on the team.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering and ETL development, with a minimum of 5 years in Azure cloud environments.
- Proven expertise with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Data Lake, and Databricks.
- Hands-on experience migrating data to Workday and/or UKG.
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Scala.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex data projects and facilitating stakeholder-facing discussions.
- Deep understanding of data governance, data quality, and compliance standards.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively across business and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with HRIS or ERP data domains.
- Familiarity with Workday data loading tools such as EIB, Studio, or BIRT.
- Previous consulting or client services experience.
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
