Low Latency Network Engineer
Alpharetta, GA (Hybrid)
12 months of contract
Specialized Electronic Trading Infrastructure (SETI) team. This high-performance network engineering role supports a global bank s low latency, high-speed trading environment. The engineer will evaluate, design, and implement leading-edge solutions to meet the requirements of high-performance computing, ultra-low latency, security, and efficient execution across complex routing and switching environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and support low-latency, high-speed network solutions for electronic trading systems.
Work with global SETI teams to optimize infrastructure performance and ensure uptime in mission-critical environments.
Evaluate emerging technologies to improve network speed, stability, and reliability.
Apply deep technical expertise to troubleshoot routing, switching, and protocol-related issues.
Partner with internal teams and technology vendors to roll out cutting-edge networking gear and configurations.
Support infrastructure across various financial products with high expectations for performance and redundancy.
Ensure compliance with security policies and industry regulations.
Produce documentation and knowledge sharing to support operational teams.
Required Qualifications
- Expert-level knowledge of routing protocols and technologies including BGP, MP-BGP, OSPF, RIP, MPLS, and L2-VPNs.
- Extensive hands-on experience with high-performance routing and switching platforms:
- Routing: Cisco ISRg2, ASR1K, CRS-1/4/8, Juniper
- Switching: Cisco Nexus, Catalyst 3K/4K/6K (SUP6e/6le/7e/7le/8e, SUP32, SUP720), Arista (all models)
In-depth understanding of switching concepts and technologies:
- Spanning Tree (RSTP, PVST+), VLAN trunking (802.1q), CEF, IGMPv2/v3, DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, TCAM
- Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals: TCP slow start, SACK, retransmits, subnets, and congestion handling
- Strong UNIX/Linux proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office tools
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
- Proven ability to work independently and in team environments with high accountability and ownership
Preferred Qualifications
- CCIE Certification or equivalent experience
- Financial services or high-frequency trading network experience
- Strong understanding of low-latency tuning methodologies
- Ability to prioritize tasks under pressure and meet tight deadlines
