Part Time Technical Data Center Operations Support

Work location: Harrisburg, PA Work Days: 2 days week 1, 3 days week 2

    • Week 1- Tuesday Wednesday (other days off)
    • Week 2- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (other days off)

On Call: Yes
Travel: possible; local locations / 10%

Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, the Technical Data Center Operations Support provides Smart Hands services in a Mission-Critical Data Center Environment.

The Tech Data Ctr Ops Spt will work within a team environment in the Data Center installing and updating IT equipment and Data Center structured cabling.

The Tech Data Ctr Ops Spt will be using IT Service Management, ITSM, and Data Center Infrastructure Management, DCIM, software tools governed by ITIL Change and Incident management.

The Tech Data Ctr Ops Spt evaluates work requests against established Incident and Change Management Policies, collaborating with requestors to implement approved changes.

The role involves using Knowledge Articles and experience to perform tasks in a focused domain using standard changes and developing new standard changes as needed.

The Tech Data Ctr Ops Spt supports hardware/software maintenance, platform management, customer proprietary systems, COTS, or Client applications.

They identify and resolve various issues, define approaches, and provide business and technical knowledge to achieve objectives.

The role may involve working in a Command Center environment, such as Windows, Network, Backup, Storage, Database, or Mainframe, from a physical data center perspective.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and operate data center equipment according to plans and SLAs.
  • Participate in disaster recovery projects with knowledge of computer networks.
  • Identify client order information, coordinate installation timing and resources, inventory shipments, and store software and licenses.
  • Notify customers of delays in scheduled computer processing.
  • Prepare documentation for installations, floor plans, rack or cabinet diagrams, and manage existing documentation for new installations.
  • Prepare for asset disposal by performing manual labor to move equipment.
  • Maintain forms, logs, and checklists for balancing information, statistical totals, setup instructions, and checklists.
  • Complete tickets to meet or exceed SLA requirements and process service and change requests.
  • Provide backup support for break-fix issues and configuration for servers and other devices.
  • Provide technical support and hardware maintenance.
  • Receive shipments for all inbound equipment for one or more Data Centers.
  • Support data center security and audits for ISO Certification Compliance, SAS70, SOX, IRS 1075, CJIS and other relevant government, client and industry standards.
  • Manage change and request processes for data center facility changes and maintenance.
  • Support data cabling, including Network, SAN, KVM, or remote out-of-band management systems, and manage cabling contractors.
  • Administer and control data center services, including physical security and infrastructure setup.
  • Install equipment on the data center floor, request and oversee power, network, SAN, and KVM connections.
  • Support Media Services Management in collaboration with the Storage Group.
  • Design, plan, and track overall data center capacity.
  • Maximize efficiency of power circuits and cooling, interfacing with data center facilities.
  • Support system installation and decommission processes, following standard approved ITIL Change Management procedures.
  • Track assets, manage configuration, and maintain physical equipment locations and connections using DCIM tools.
  • Participate in Data Center on-call schedule
  • Some travel between Primary and Secondary Data Centers may be needed

Key Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in IT, technical support, and data center operations, including rack, stack, and server provisioning.
  • Experience in cable management (copper cable termination and understanding of fiber optic cabling).
  • Facilities planning experience (space, power, and cooling) preferred
  • Preferred certifications, or working to complete: Comp TIA A+, Comp TIA Network+, Microsoft MCP
  • Experience with enterprise backup solutions; knowledge of Symantec NetBackup preferred.
  • Organizational skills and experience with desktop software, Microsoft Office, etc. Pass initial and annual background checks
