Job Summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Process Development Engineer within our Advanced Programs group. Under limited supervision, this Engineer will establish engineering processes for design and technical management of development projects, including final design, prototype fabrication and flight test of new GA-ASI, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports operation of engineering systems and documents any problems.
  • Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems.
  • Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.
  • Understands digital models and can contribute to development of behavioral and/or functional capabilities at the component, subsystem, and system level.
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects.
  • Provides direction to design or technical staff and will lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
  • Understands the needs of the Advanced Programs project engineering team and develops processes and tools to enhance project execution
  • Understands agile software development processes and software applications used to facilitate their work and can adapt this methodology to various disciplines and products
  • Ability to generate technology development roadmaps taking inputs from existing project schedules and technical objectives and link and track those to products and programs requiring the technologies
  • Define and implement requirements drive test execution issue tracking, root cause identification and corrective active implementation in a collaborative environment accessible by all engineering functions
  • Define and document agile software development process for AI / ML approaches and communicate to DoD customers
  • Ability to understand and analyze network traffic in a modeling & simulation environment leading to understand risk of exceeding hardware capabilities
  • Develops and executes technology maturation plans for technologies key to platform development and enhancement projects
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Supports program capture and business development activities including attendance of industry days, generating of white papers, proposal technical volumes and basis of estimates and BOMs for proposal cost volumes
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones, with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Multi-tasking team player with a hands-on approach; customer-focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
