Job Description

Guide strategic suppliers in the design, integration and execution of automated robotic cells for high volume manufacture of next-generation GM battery electric vehicle programs. Develop strategic suppliers in GM vehicle system controls standards for automation systems for GM RESS programs. Responsible for the design, layout, installation, configuration, implementation, and validation of automated manufacturing and assembly systems for GM plant facilities. Evaluate automation requirements necessary to achieve RSS production objectives and plan controls schematics to achieve required automation levels. Implement innovative manufacturing engineering concepts involving machine designs and process requirements for vehicle manufacturing and assembly processes. Specify bill of material and equipment requirements. Conduct machinery acceptance run-off and process statistical process control during the procurement of automation equipment and machinery including computer numerically controlled devices, industrial robotics, human-machine interfaces, motion sensing devices, programmable logic controllers, and vision systems. Analyze plant layouts and markup in AutoCAD for equipment and machinery interferences. Leverage global GM lean manufacturing solutions and GM Global Manufacturing system principles to decease manufacturing cost per unit and maximize efficiency. Apply process failure mode and effects analysis, design of experiments, and Design for Six Sigma to develop automation test processes and layout concepts and optimize them in transition to execution phases of the GM Global Vehicle Development Process. 10% travel to client sites nationwide. Telecommuting available 2 days a week.

Additional Job Description

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, or related field of study. Five (5) years of experience as an Automation Project Engineer, Controls Lead, Senior Controls Engineer, Manufacturing Controls Engineer, or related occupation. Five years of experience with Programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to control and automate manufacturing processes; Design intuitive Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for operators to interact with automated systems; Electrical systems, including wiring, circuit design, and troubleshooting; Control systems theory and experience in designing and implementing control algorithms; Diagnose and resolve issues with automation systems; and Communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP for seamless integration of automation components. Two years of experience with Industrial robots and integration into manufacturing systems; Smart manufacturing reporting and device level analytics; and Smart vision camera systems for error proofing and product quality controls.
