Job Title: Senior Network Engineer Consultant
RFQ No.: 25-18
Location: Hybrid - Holyoke, MA preferred initially; access to Windsor, CT as needed
Schedule: Hybrid (Tuesdays and Wednesdays onsite)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer Consultant to support the Reliability Services team. This role is critical to maintaining and evolving the network infrastructure that supports ISO operations, with a strong focus on transitioning to Palo Alto technologies. The position involves a mix of operational support and capital project work, including technical refreshes, onboarding new systems, and implementing security and network enhancements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure for the Bulk Electric System of New England using Cisco and Palo Alto technologies.
Provide Tier 2-3 level support for routing, switching, and firewall systems.
Configure and manage Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, ASA and Firepower routers.
Implement and manage Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama, including App-ID, User-ID, SSL decryption, threat prevention, and URL filtering.
Manage VPN solutions (Cisco and Palo Alto) and high availability configurations (HSRP, DMVPN, SD-WAN).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement ACL requests and ensure secure network access.
Support patching, software upgrades, and DWDM appliances (Cisco NCS).
Participate in an on-call rotation (every 3 weeks, 24/7 coverage from Saturday to Sunday) after an acclimation period.
Ensure compliance with NERC CIP standards and maintain a secure network environment.
Utilize Ansible and Python for automation (preferred).
Assist with CUCM onboarding and support.
Contribute to project work including technical refreshes and system/database updates.
Candidate Requirements:
Proficiency in Cisco routing and switching protocols (OSPF, BGP).
Experience with Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, ASA, and Firepower platforms.
Expertise in Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama management.
Familiarity with HSRP, DMVPN, SD-WAN (Cisco Viptela), and MPLS.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Experience with SNMP and infrastructure monitoring tools.
VMware experience or similar virtualization background.
Willingness to work a hybrid schedule from Holyoke or Windsor.
Relevant certifications preferred: CCNA, CCNP, PCNSE or equivalent.
Minimum Requirements / Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3-5+ years of experience in network engineering with Cisco and Palo Alto technologies.
Experience with Gigamon tools is a plus.
