At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

As a member of the Blue Origin family of companies, Honeybee Robotics has been at the forefront of robotics for over 40 years. Our Colorado location specializes in creating advanced motion control solutions for NASA, defense, and commercial programs. Our work has played a critical role in thousands of projects, spanning from conceptual design studies to flight missions, including NASA's Artemis I Mission and the Roman Space Telescope. We are seeking technically brilliant individuals who are passionate about their work, thrive in collaborative environments, and have a laser focus on the details that drive excellence.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will join our Motion Control program as a Systems Engineer. You will be responsible for exemplifying standard methodologies, balanced technical judgment, and outstanding work ethic in a time-constrained environment. Your role will involve understanding the voice of the customer and integrating that vision into the product development effort, developing conceptual designs and work plans for new product development, performing top-level architectural design and preliminary analysis/sizing of spaceflight electromechanical hardware, and acting as the primary interface between mechanical and electrical engineering teams. Additionally, you will analyze and define both product functional and subsystem requirements, own product functional and validation requirements, perform hazards and risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies, and apply engineering principles to directly participate in the design, fabrication, assembly, and test of various mechatronic systems.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop electromechanical system architectures based on customer requirements.
  • Synthesize requirements for subsystems and components as well as negotiate top level requirements with vehicle teams.
  • Estimate, organize, and lead project teams to develop bespoke aerospace hardware on time and budget.
  • Generate and review fabrication, test, and quality assurance documentation and vendor specifications.

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 10+ years of validated experience focused on developing custom mechatronic products.
  • Broad multidisciplinary engineering skills spanning both mechanical and electronic domains.
  • Experience writing and maintaining design and test quality assurance documentation.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with all phases of development, including requirements analysis, prototype design, product design, assembly, debugging, and testing.
  • CAD skill sufficient for creating architectural level models and visual aids (e.g. Solidworks or equivalent).
  • Skilled in requirements management and traceability using systems like DOORS/Jama or equivalent.
  • Maintain and deliver Requirements Verification Matrices and compliance artifacts.
  • Derive key technical requirements and develop validation and verification plans.
  • Excellent intra-team and client-facing collaborator and communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships.
