Position: Director of Engineering
Location: Little Rock, AR
Salary/Pay Rate: $130,000
Type: FTE/On-Site (Remote/Hybrid Option)
Archon Resources is currently looking for a Director of Engineering for direct hire to join one of our best clients located in Little Rock, AR. This is a permanent position with full benefits including medical, vision, dental, PTO, & 401k.
Summary:
We’re seeking a strategic and experienced leader to oversee a growing Civil Infrastructure Professional Services team. This role is responsible for guiding technical specialists, driving project success, and ensuring seamless coordination across multiple departments. The Director will play a key role in resource planning, project profitability, and developing new service offerings, while fostering a high-performing team culture.
Responsibilities:
Post-Sales Leadership

Build and maintain a proactive resource pipeline to ensure project coverage and balanced workloads across all service offerings.

Use CRM and project management tools to track utilization, profitability, and progress against departmental goals.

Provide regular profitability and performance updates to executive leadership, highlighting trends, challenges, and improvement plans.

Partner with the VP and President to align on financial targets, project strategy, and personnel decisions.

Coordinate all logistics for active engagements, including staffing, materials, and technology setup.

Implement departmental policies and long-term initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and revenue growth.

Manage key professional service offerings such as consulting, implementation, staff augmentation, and production outsourcing.

Conduct weekly team reviews to assess project health, utilization, and client satisfaction, addressing issues promptly.

Oversee all projects to ensure deliverables, SOW accuracy, and timelines are met while maintaining profitability targets (minimum $110/hr).

Mentor and manage team members through onboarding, technical training, scheduling, and career development.

Ensure all staff maintain current certifications and complete required exams; communicate status updates to leadership.

Guide technical teams on production standards, LOD requirements, and classroom preparation for training delivery.

Partner with accounting to ensure project closeouts and invoicing are completed accurately and on time.

Collaborate with marketing to develop webinars, white papers, blogs, and case studies that highlight team successes and customer impact.

Submit weekly project status reports and quarterly reviews covering performance, new product opportunities, and financial health.

Contribute to the creation of new service offerings based on evolving client needs and market demand.

Support the sales organization by providing technical expertise, assisting with client engagements, and ensuring a seamless customer experience.

Maintain consistent communication with clients to drive satisfaction and identify improvement opportunities.
Pre-Sales Collaboration

Maintain an accurate and up-to-date pipeline for all service opportunities.

Coordinate internal alignment calls (IARs) to ensure proper resource participation before and after sales engagements.

Join pre-sales meetings when technical experts are unavailable or new to a project.

Work closely with Sales Executives to align on opportunity status, pricing strategies, and proposal development.

Support the sales team by removing roadblocks, equipping them with effective service messaging, and participating in customer meetings as needed.

Partner with marketing to plan and execute campaigns that drive awareness and inbound service opportunities.

Ensure all project scopes, proposals, and SOWs are accurate, complete, and aligned with customer expectations.

Collaborate with accounting to confirm monthly invoicing and project closeouts are completed properly.
Reporting and Analytics
Prepare and maintain detailed reports and dashboards including:

Team utilization (billable vs. non-billable)

Project health and success metrics
-
Monthly service revenue and forecast accuracy
-
Weekly completed and in-progress project summaries
-
Horizon projects and upcoming pipeline visibility
-
Profitability metrics (targeting $110/hr minimum)

Service opportunities by stage (scoped, in progress, on hold, closed)

Challenges, successes, and corrective action plans

Pre-sales IAR tracking and monthly service revenue projections
Performance Metrics
Success in this role will be measured by:

Maintaining project forecast accuracy within ±10%

Achieving 80% average team billable utilization
-
Sustaining a minimum average hourly revenue rate of $110

Meeting or exceeding additional KPIs established by the VP of Technical Services

Requirements:
-
Education: A bachelor’s degree is required for this position.
-
Technical Expertise: Deep proficiency with Autodesk software tools used in the civil engineering and design space.

Industry Experience: A minimum of ten years working within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.

Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading and managing a technical team of ten or more professionals.

Project Oversight: Proven project management experience, with a strong ability to plan, execute, and deliver multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Team Development: Skilled in coaching and developing technical staff to ensure high performance, professional growth, and consistent delivery standards.

Work Environment: Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment that requires multitasking, focus, and adaptability. Must be able to remain productive during periods of frequent interruption and extended computer-based work.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities with a strong focus on relationship management, problem solving, and client engagement.

Technology Proficiency: Intermediate or higher skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Teams, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.

Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in English, both written and spoken, to ensure clear collaboration with colleagues and clients.

Comprehension & Presentation: Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex instructions and technical documentation, and to present information confidently in both virtual and in-person settings to individuals or groups.

Professional Credentials: PE is REQUIRED.
