Overview
A public-sector organization is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead and deliver technical projects within Infrastructure, Network, and Security teams. Projects may include lifecycle management, patching, certifications, and Infrastructure as Code initiatives (Terraform). The position requires demonstrated expertise in managing multiple concurrent IT projects and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.
Project Duration: November 2025 May 2026 (with potential extensions)
Key Responsibilities
Project & Program Planning and Management
- Develop and manage project plans using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
- Define scope, goals, deliverables, and timelines aligned with organizational priorities.
- Coordinate internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders for successful execution.
- Utilize project management tools to track progress and report performance.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor project teams; provide guidance to junior project managers.
- Foster a collaborative team environment and ensure effective communication.
- Lead change management and conflict resolution efforts.
- Clearly define roles, responsibilities, and deliverables across team members.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders and project sponsors.
- Communicate project status, risks, and issues effectively to leadership.
- Ensure alignment between business goals and project objectives.
Risk & Issue Management
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks.
- Proactively track and escalate issues to maintain project health and schedule.
Budget & Resource Management
- Develop, monitor, and manage project budgets in alignment with governance requirements.
- Oversee resource allocation and capacity planning to optimize performance.
- Ensure cost control and adherence to financial targets.
Transformation & Change Management
- Lead change initiatives to support adoption of new technologies or processes.
- Drive continuous improvement and organizational transformation.
Process Improvement
- Contribute to the enhancement of project management methodologies and best practices.
- Promote process efficiency and the adoption of industry-leading practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education / Experience:
- High school diploma or GED and nine (9) years of experience managing multiple IT and business projects.
- Degree substitution allowed:
- Associate s degree = 2 years of experience
- Bachelor s degree or higher = 4 years of experience
- Two (2) or more years in a lead role requiring collaboration across multiple divisions and stakeholders at varying levels.
- Certifications (Required):
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Program Management Professional (PgMP)
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or SAFe Certification
- Technical Tools (Required):
- Two (2) years of experience with Microsoft Project
- One (1) year of experience with Azure DevOps
- One (1) year of experience with Jira
- One (1) year of experience with GitHub
Desired Qualifications
Preferred Certifications:
- CompTIA Security+
- Cisco CCNP
- Palo Alto Networks PCNSE or CISSP
- Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
- CISM
- ITIL Certification
- Cloud Certifications (Azure or AWS)
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience using Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tools.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and frameworks.
- Background in networking and infrastructure operations.
- Experience managing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) or modernization initiatives.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership abilities.
- Proven success managing budgets, resources, and complex technical projects in large enterprise or public-sector environments.
