Job Summary:
As the Automation Project Engineer at Primus Solutions, you will be primarily responsible for producing engineering designs and work specifications for automated solutions. In this role, the Project Engineer will use industry s best practices to complete detailed mechanical drawings, prepare Request for Proposal documents, manage vendor drawing submittals, and assist in scorecarding. The Project Engineer will also provide high level guidance for electrical and controls requirements during the detailed design phases of the project life cycle. The Project Engineer will coordinate with Solutions Operations project team members to ensure vendor compliance on submittal drawings, procurement process, final mechanical and electrical installation drawing sets, as well as conduct on-site field inspection checks for installation compliance to drawings. Finally, the Project Engineer collaborates with Primus Builders and Primus Design departments for drawing integration and building system requirements as necessary
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with Primus Solutions and Primus Design team members during final detailed engineering, offering expertise to equipment selection and layout
- Creation of system layout and elevation view drawings to be used for client approval and installation prints. These drawings are to adhere to Primus drawing standards
- Make sure the scope of work is clear for all the MHE suppliers, validate quotes, and ensure properly integrated into their contract drawings. Assist the Solutions PM with tracking final cost to original Bills of Material scope.
- Provide engineering calculations to ensure that any automated conveyor system will operate and perform as required, i.e. horsepower, pneumatics, throughput & rate volumes, floor & ceiling loading, and any other requirements
- Partner with construction team lead and contractors to incorporate Solutions drawings into builders drawing sets, validating any clash detection from other trades.
- Oversite of detailed automation solution design to include operational safety interfaces, mechanical / electrical layout, controls system architecture and layout
- Reviewing automation vendors order acknowledgements for final implementation drawing sets
- Assist the Vendor Controls Engineer, Software Engineer and the Solutions Project Manager with system s description of operation, commissioning, and acceptance testing documents
- Supporting Solutions Ops PM on any required materials to enable training on the mechanical equipment and their electrical components.
- On-site travel to validate equipment installations in the field, supporting red-line process, and ensuring final as-built drawings submitted by vendors are correct.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor s Degree in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Logistics, or related field is highly preferred but can be substituted based on career experience
- 7+ years of solid understanding of material handling systems including, conveyor, controls, and software and their application to warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing. Knowledge of ASRS and robotic systems is a plus
- 7+ years of skills using AutoCAD software, with a deep understanding of X-ref s, CAD Blocks, mechanical drawing principles and best practices. Revit modeling is a plus
- Understanding of automation control systems, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, motor control systems, PLCs, and electrical circuits of ASRS -
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, entry level knowledge of PLC not limited to the understanding of basic ladder logic to read and interpret, mid-level understanding of calculations for HP and torque requirements for motor specifications
- Knowledge of DFEMA and FEMA principles, ASME Principles for design, Risk Analysis based on ANSI Standards
- Experience using Microsoft applications to include Teams, Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word with Oracle Primavera project management a plus
